CONCEALED WEAPON

(2025) Sterling Silver and Onyx

While traveling in Europe, I carried a large serving fork with sharp tines as a makeshift weapon, due to restrictions on self-defense tools. Concealed Weapon transforms the traditional form of an eating utensil into an inconspicuous self-defense tool by elongating the fork’s middle tine. After reflecting on this shared experience, I have come to realize that we as women do not only face threats to our safety on unlit streets, but everywhere in our society due to our current political climate. Women do not only sense a threat to our general safety, but also to our rights and our bodily autonomy. This piece represents a woman’s determination to fight back against oppressive forces.
