BODILY REFLECTIONS

This piece is inspired by the work of Ana Mendieta and her Silueta series, which involved many different versions of abstract female figures. The forms in this piece represent the female body and explore our reflections on our physical vessels throughout our lives and the turmoil that can be experienced within the relationships of oneself to one's own body. Analyzing the changes that we experience physically as women through the aging process can be shameful and difficult. This piece represents the serenity one can reach when realizing our bodies' power, as dissatisfaction and shame turn to appreciation.
